Welcome to Active Mind's Preschool!

Active Minds Preschool focuses on teaching 3 and 4-year olds the skills they need to start kindergarten, including letter recognition and sounds, writing, shapes, colors, numbers, social skills, music, science, fun and much, much more! We have a lot of hands on learning and crafts to help cement the concepts being taught. Children will learn social skills and get one-on-one attention in a small classroom setting of only six children.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you all for helping with our Thanksgiving baskets for the food bank. With your help we were able to donate two complete Thanksgiving dinners just like this one to the Meridian Food Bank. The kids were so proud of their baskets and the food bank really appreciated the donation. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

Fall Fun!

Fall has had some fun units in preschool. We had a great time at the pumpkin patch and now we are working on Thanksgiving themes. The children have been doing such a good job on their work. We reviewed the letters we have done so far and I was surprised how well the kids did remembering the letter name and sound! It is so fun to watch them progress.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I am thankful for all of your kids. They are such a great group. It has been so fun teaching them this year. Thank you for contributing to our Thanksgiving basket for the food bank as well. It is such a wonderful way for your kids to learn about giving and it is very appreciated by the food bank and its patrons.

On a random note, we have been doing a lot of painting in preschool lately. The kids always wear paint aprons when the paint, but with the colder weather the long sleeves sometimes end up getting paint on them. The paints we use are always washable and should come right out. Please let me know if you ever have an item that gets paint on it that won't come out. I know I have a hard time getting the black out. I try to pull up the kids sleeves and keep them clean, but sometimes the paint still gets on them.

Where are all the color activites??

We have been learning about colors during the last few weeks, and will continue to work on colors until the end of November. So where are all the color activities? Each week your child paints with the color of the week. I keep those paintings until the end of the unit, when we will make them into a special book about colors. I try to incorporate the color of the week into the theme for the week, to reinforce the color too. The kids love painting! Ask your kids about the color of the week to see if they can remember.

Upcoming fun!

Our pumpkin patch field trip is very soon. The Monday/Wednesday class will be going October 13th, which is next Wednesday. The Tuesday/Thursday class will be going October 21st, the following week. Everybody loves this field trip. Each child gets to ride on a hay wagon, choose a pumpkin, run in the hay bale maze, and eat popcorn and juice. The cost of the field trip was included in your registration fee and there is no charge for adults. If you would like to attend with your child, please meet us at the Linder Farms Pumpkin patch at 10:00. We should be finished with the field trip at 11:30, and you can take your child home with you. If you will not be attending, bring your children to preschool by 9:30 and I will transport them. Please be sure to have a jacket, long pants and tennis shoes for your child. The pumpkin patch can be very scratchy! I will send permission slips home shortly.

Zoo fun!

I had a blast at both zoo field trips! The animals performed both days. The Monday/Wednesday class got to see a lion paw at them through the glass and the Tuesday/Thursday class got to pet a badger! Both group were able to see the Sloth Bear. It was a real treat! Enjoy the pictures of some of the animals we saw.

Fall 2010 School year

The Fall 2010 preschool year starts September 8th for the Monday and Wednesday class and September 7th for the Tuesday and Thursday class. This is going to be a great year! We will have fun field trips and great projects and units.

This year I am also starting a parent communication folder. Each week your child will bring home a folder on the last day of preschool for the week that will include information on how your child's week went. The folder will also contain any important communication from me, such as permission slips for field trips, book orders, and monthly news letters. Please check your child's backpack each week!

I am looking forward to starting the school year. In August we will have a meet and greet so all the children can meet each other and see the preschool room before school starts. You will get an invitation in the mail the first week of August. Parents, preschoolers and siblings are invited! We will have ice cream sundays and get to know each other! I can't wait to see you all then!
